Celebrating 10 Years Of Our Company

Celebrating 10 Years Of Our Company

The Zeni team s. r. o. is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It all has started on December 19, 2011, when Róbert and David founded the Vitix company s. r. o.  Originally, it was supposed to serve as a tire selling e-shop. However, the two of them fell in love with the online space and gradually started developing websites for other customers, too.

At first, David and Róbert tried to develop their own CMS system, using a working name “CMS Dolphin”. After a while, they decided that in order to increase quality, it would be better to start building on what has already been created and what the WordPress community has created.

Why WordPress?

WordPress has become our favourite website creating tool, and it is not just us. More than 43% of websites use WordPress. We don’t use WordPress because we think it is the best solution for everything. We use it because we love it.

  • It is flexible – you can build anything with it.
  • It enables to easily deploy and test changes in order to keep up with constantly changing standarts.
  • It has a great, experienced and knowing community.

You can read more about the reasons why we build websites with WordPress on our website.

WordPress Community

The WordPress community is closely related to the use of WordPress. On one lovely morning, Róbert made David attend the WordCamp in Bratislava, Slovakia and the history started writing itself. David was so impressed by the lectures that as a result, he became actively involved in the WordPress community. Together with Jan Bočínec from the company Webikon, they started organizing the WordPress meetups in Brno. This was followed by the WordCamp Brno 2017 to 2019. Then, also followed by helping and visiting on other WordCamps – Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Paris, Belgrade.

Quality And Growth

Since you cannot really make a living just by participating in the WordPress community, David started to actively acquire clients who, in his opinion, needed a quality website to sell their products or services. At the beginning, he set a reasonable goal of increasing the company’s turnover together with increasing quality. This year’s turnover is already over 3.5 million. Annual increase of 35%.

To realize their goal, David and Róbert need a Team by their side. Right at the beginning, they decided that such team should consist of not only seniors, who will write a decent code, a quality plugin, or set up a server, but also juniors, who will learn from seniors and eventually join them. Today, Zeni has a crew of a graphic designer, copywriters, frontend and backend developers, marketer, SEO specialist and, last but not least, a tester.

Why Do We Celebrate Our 10th Anniversary And Why Is It So Important To Us?

Certain statistics state that out of 100 companies, only about 10 of them don’t wind-up after the first 5 years. After another 5 years, only about 3 of them are left. On its own, this certainly indicates something. We are celebrating our 10 years these days. 10 years without any credit, loan, 10 years of building of a system we can be proud of because it just works. This is how we spent our day celebrating of our 10th anniversary:

To properly mark this anniversary, we requested an audit from 2 different companies. One by Bisnode (now Dun&Bradstreet) and one by Proverena spolecnost (Certified Company). The first company rated us with an AA rating, while AAA is their highest one. The second company firstly rated us with a silver medal earlier this year, then even with a golden one right before our anniversary.

We have done a countless amount of work during the whole decade. We have created many fast and reliable websites, also accessible websites for schools and kindergartens, launched our own plugin, planted fruit trees and we are striving to reach our awaiting goals. We are glad that us and our colleagues enjoy working in our free company and that we enlighten each other during the process. We are so grateful for all of our cooperactions and clients so far and look forward to the new ones!

Zeni and tree planting

Zeni And Tree Planting

Our company Zeni team s.r.o., as a part of the WordPress community, decided to support an idea of the WordCamp conference this year. In 2019, they started with the planting of trees in a new orchard in Otnice. Thanks to us, its second half was created this year.

The WordPress Community And Planting

We are interested in good ideas and we like to support such them in Zeni. One of them is planting trees. It was started by the WordPress community two years ago. The WordPress planting event brought up to 45 new trees to Otnice! When we found out that the planted trees should be fruity and such a tasty and sweet orchard would grow, we were even more interested in the idea. In addition, fruit trees have the longest lifespan, because tall-stemmed trees will last more than 70 years. People who will passers-by will be able to enjoy the fruit for a long time.

Thanks to the new trees, in 2019, the WordPress community neutralized the CO2 footprint of the WordCamp Brno 2019 conference. In the following years, the conference took place only in the online space. Zeni also participated in the WordCamp Brno 2019. You can read more about the event in the article Zeni and WordCamp Brno 2019

Tree Planting

The Zeni team is celebrating its 10th birthday this year, so we came up with the idea to contribute to 45 trees planted at the WordPress event and plant another 45. Together with the residents of Otnice, the second half of the orchard was planted on November 13, 2021 and it can now be enjoyed by everyone who will walk by.

The orchard will offer small fruit snacks on 90 different trees, among which you can indulge in cherries, apples, pears, apricots or plums. Thanks to the different varieties, you will find fruits on the trees during your walk from spring to autumn.

A Vision For The Future

In the past, there used to be orchards near almost every village, we could take a walk in them and try some fruits. In Zeni, we would like to contribute 50 fruit trees every year in the future, which the villagers will be able to plant together. Everyone who will walk by will be able to visit the orchads that will be created on the lands of villages. We are going to create a little fruit joy not only for people, but also for nature and Mother Earth, which really needs trees these days.

Zeni and WordCamp Brno 2019

Zeni and WordCamp Brno 2019

On 26 October 2019, the third annual WordCamp conference was held at Brno Congress Center. The members of our Zeni team actively participated in the organization as always! David took over the role of the main organizer for the second year in a row and he was even a member of the organizing team in the first year. Bruno and Róbert joined the organizers for the second time as well and Bruno also helped to organize the first year as a volunteer.

Just like last year, Zeni the Koala had the honour of belonging to the main sponsors of the event. The first part of her funding was sent to the headquarters to fully cover the costs of the WCB and the second one was invested into trees and everything else needed to create a new fruit orchard. This orchard of 50 trees was created the day after the event in Otnice village as a result of a day-long tiring cooperation of a team of volunteers composed of our team’s representatives, other participants of the event and some of local residents in order to reset the carbon footprint these 3 years of WCB caused.

A total of 222 tickets were sold. This magical number proves a nice growth in comparison with the last year even though the organizers were hoping to sell at least 300.

David welcomed everyone at 9.05 AM and the series of lectures could finally begin. Since it was perfectly scheduled, the eager and excited Zeni the Koala gave the whole organizing team a huge thumbs up. The conference was accompanied by a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. All the speakers prepared their lectures very well and Zeni often couldn’t decide between the halls A, B and C. Luckily, this aspect was well-thought-out by the organizers and the streams of the lectures will be uploaded on the official WordCamp website and on the YouTube channel. The photos from the event are already on the WordCamp Brno Facebook profile. In all the halls and even the foyer, the participants enthusiastically networked and discussed various WordPress topics. A whole bunch of good friends gathered there, including: girls and boys from BrilloJán Bočínec with colleagues from Webicon Karol VorosKatarína NovotnáAdam LaitaIvo Macek and many others.

The excellent catering was provided by the company Rychlík Catering for the third time. The participants could enjoy their morning on a coffee break in the form of delicious sandwiches, baguettes, fresh fruit and delicious sweets, which indeed made Zeni’s mouth water even though none of it could ever top the eucalyptus leaves. The lunch certainly pleased all fans of the Czech cuisine and even vegans. In the afternoon, the attendants were offered a nice coffe break once again and a delicious dinner in the form of burgers and a warm buffet was served at the after party in the evening. The after party ended around midnight and all of the feedback respondents were satisfied with both the location and the available service.

Thanks to the large number of sponsors, it was possible to organize the event in a larger area with numerous stands offering many practial gifts and surprises. Zeni got a nice water bottle and also a plenty of pens which will definitely come in handy when she will start scribbling a new plan for an another space adventure in her teeny-tiny diary.

At every WordCamp conference, attendants receive a commemorative gift. This year, everybody got a T-shirt with the Brno Wapuu print. Zeni the Koala has fallen head over heels in love with Wapuu and she is wearing the shirt literally always with the only exception of the painful moments spent in her cockpit impatiently watching the washing machine drum. Not only does it smell like eucalyptus thanks to our band new fabric softener, but it is also made of a great material and can be worn on every occasion thanks to the fine print.

The entire Zeni team really enjoyed the conference and we are already looking forward to other similar event.

Zeni and WordCamp Bratislava 2019

Zeni and WordCamp Bratislava 2019

On the 12th of October 2019, the 8th year of the local WordCamp conference was held in FIIT STU in Bratislava, Slovakia. Zeni koala and her teammates simply couldn’t miss the opportunity to attend this event.

She hit the road to Bratislava the day before the event in order to steal the best possible places for her team. She was travelling by her superb Earth buggy called Dacia Duster.

On the same day, all attendants had a chance to participate in the Contributor Day and support the local community. Our team was represented there by Róbert Jurinek. Later that evening, David and Bruno Dirbák gladly accepted the invitation to the speakers’ dinner with loads of great good and topics to discuss in a very interesting company. The whole debate was passing in a friendly manner as always and everyone was already looking forward to star on a stage on the following day.

In the next morning at half past 8, David fired up the engine of our koala roving vehicle and we all set off towards the faculty. Then at precisely 9 AM, Peter Nemčok started the event with an opening speech.

Zeni Koala truly appreciated the organizers’ attitude towards the beginner speakers. This year’s WordCamp indeed revolved around this field’s new faces since most of the speakers were newbies.

Our team representatives David and Bruno Dirbák took the roles of the speakers.

Bruno really succeedeed with his workshop “How to Build a Site in Divi Builder” since his audience managed to fill the full capacity of the hall for 70 people.

Bruno:
“I was seriously nervous since the morning because I had no idea if I should wear the blue shirt or the light blue shirt with tiny squares. I was also scared that my hair won’t look good and I will just stand there awkwardly. In the end, everything fortunately turned out well and I could finally get going with David. We arrived at the place and I was unbelievably preparing for my perfomance for the next 2 hours. I wanted everything to be perfect, every comma, every dot. And it’s here! It’s my turn! Let’s hurry to the hall! I showed up, plugged the computer into the data projector and immediately started my presentation. I was feeling nervous at first, but my nervousness gradually decreased so much that I was eventually feeling like I’m standing in front of my friends. There were plenty of questions at the end of my lecture and I’m glad I managed to answer all of them immediately without any hesitation. I’m incredibly excited to have been given such an opportunity. This experience has taught me a lot and I already know that I want to pass on information in this form again when I get another chance in the future.”

David finished a series of lectures with his “Don’t Make Sites For a Bag of Pears”.

David:
“I had a terrible stage fright since the morning. It was my first perfomance in front of so many people and I was even supposed to finish the entire lecture day in the main hall. The lecture was aimed at colleagues from the industry who sometimes make sites for a small amount of money and then eventually regret it. I also used some of my own practice in it. Even though my presentation was supposed to last 25 minutes and I carefully prepared every single one, I finished already after 18 minutes. No one had any questions so my lecture ended 20 minutes earlier. That shows that there is still room for some improvement. I hope this wasn’t my last speaking on WordCamp and I will get another opportunity to pass on my practice experience to my less experienced colleagues.”

The entire conference went smootly, exactly on schedule. It was accompanied by a pleasant atmosphere, perfectly prepared catering and a nice finish. Zeni koala and the whole team were pleasantly tired and full of new experiences. They eventually returned to their cockpits in order to rest, relax and enjoy the goodies in the form of eucalyptus leaves. For this is Zeni koala’s most beloved activity.

WordPress Brno Meetup #3 and GUG

WordPress Brno Meetup #3 and GUG

It was busy Wednesday for little Zeni, working all day long and two lectures in the afternoon. First, she went to GUG (and Besteto company) to support her colleague David who was giving there a lecture on the topic of basics of WordPress. In the evening she went to WordPress Brno Meetup as every second Wednesday.

GUG.cz

David focused on the basics of WordPress so that everyone can have a basic idea about how WordPress works, what are the templates and how to use them. Also, he was talking about what are the important questions which should everyone asked themselves before they start to build web pages either for themselves or for his or her company.

In the evening Zeni moved to Skleněná louka to Cvrček’s to attend Rostislav Wolný lecture about plugin Mailpoet.

Mailpoet

She learned that Mailpoet is a good plugin for sending newsletters. Up to 2000 subscribers it is free. A paid version is able to send emails more quickly than common hostings. You can find preset templates for emails there. In Mailpoet you can administrate newsletters effectively and it provides you a good overview of users responses to emails. Mailpoet provides statistics of  receivers actions. Eg. if they open the newsletter, if they click on the link etc.

After the lecture there was a lively discussion about where to use this plugin and everybody came to the conclusion that everywhere.

David was also excited about the plugin and he decided to use it for the WordCamp in Brno. There will be a workshop on this plugin as well.

After the exhausting day, Zeni went to the bed to enjoy the deserved rest.
